What Is Children’s Orthodontics?

Children’s orthodontics focuses on diagnosing and treating dental and jaw alignment issues in kids often before all of their adult teeth have come in. Early orthodontic care can help guide proper jaw growth, correct bite problems, and create space for developing teeth, helping to prevent more complex issues later on.

Can Children Receive Orthodontic Treatment?

Yes! Children, teens, and adolescents can absolutely benefit from orthodontic care. In fact, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. Early treatment can help prevent more serious issues later on by guiding jaw growth, correcting bite problems, and making room for adult teeth.

How Do I Know If My Child Needs Orthodontic Treatment?

Look for these common early signs:

  • Early or late loss of baby teeth
  • Difficulty chewing or biting
  • Mouth breathing
  • Thumb or finger sucking
  • Crowding or crooked teeth
  • Jaw that shifts, makes sounds, or seems misaligned
  • Speech issues
  • Teeth that stick out or don’t meet properly
  • Grinding or clenching teeth

If you notice any of these, schedule a consultation with our office. Early detection allows us to recommend the most effective and least invasive solutions.

What Types of Treatments Do You Offer for Kids and Teens?

At Celebrity Orthodontics, we offer a full range of treatment options for children and adolescents, including Braces, Invisalign®, Rapid Palatal Expanders (RPE), and the Invisalign® Palatal Expander (IPE). The best option depends on your child’s unique orthodontic needs, jaw development, and personal preferences.

What Is Early Orthodontic Treatment or Phase 1?

Phase 1 treatment typically begins between ages 7 and 10. It’s used to address serious bite problems, guide jaw growth, or make room for adult teeth. This early phase can:

  • Correct harmful oral habits
  • Improve airway and breathing issues
  • Set the foundation for Phase 2 (comprehensive treatment) later

Will My Child Need a Second Phase of Treatment?

In most cases, yes. Phase 1 sets the stage, but once all the permanent teeth have erupted, a second phase (typically braces or Invisalign®) may be needed to complete alignment and bite correction.
